An animal team usually consists of a 'hero' who is the face of the animal character. whenever we see the cat/dogs face it is out hero animal. Then there are one or more back-up individuals. We film the back-up animals performing action, running or distance scenes. Some back-ups will have particular specialties such as a cat who enjoys being held. Your project and workload for the animals will dictate what our animal team will look like.
Native animals require special permits, and husbandry requirements varying from state to state. There are different levels of licensing depending on the species. other permits are required for filming with natives. this paperwork can take 8-10 weeks to be processed before filming can begin. in NSW paperwork needs to be submitted to the RSPCA 2-3 weeks prior to filming.
All animals can be trained. Recently we have worked with rabbits, cats, dogs, chickens, rats, parrots, cockroaches and moths. In our zoo careers we have worked with many species, various bird species, brolgas, penguins, flamingos, pelicans, exotic small mammals such as meercats, binturong (they smell of popcorn) and many, many more. There is a saying that "any animal can be trained to do anything it is physically capable of doing". There is basic handling that all animals stepping onto set need to be trained to do; crate training, travelling, a-b, station work along with any specific actions for your job.
Yes! we have supplied insects like cockroaches and moths for projects in the past. They can be trained to achieve the shots required.
Yes! There are some things to consider first though. Please read our For Owners page for more info.
We are based in both Victoria and NSW. However we are happy to travel Australia wide, including remote locations for projects.
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we work and pay our respects to Indigenous Elders past, present and emerging.
At We Do Animals, each of us contributes to inclusion—we all have a role to play. Our culture is the result of our behaviors, our personal commitment, our curiosity, how we collaborate, and the ways that we courageously share our perspectives and encourage others to do the same.
